PhlatLight™ By Luminus Devices Receives CES 2006 Best Buzz Award from Insight Media

Revolutionary Solid State Light Source Recognized as Best New Enabling Technology

February 6, 2006

Woburn, Massachusetts – Luminus Devices, Inc. today announced that its PhlatLight™ technology won Insight Media’s CES 2006 Best Buzz Award in the category of “Best New Enabling Technology.” Insight Media, the leading source of technology intelligence about the display industry, selects the annual Best Buzz award winners by polling Insight Media staff, analysts, press and conference attendees to highlight the "must-see" products or technologies at the show (http://www.insightmedia.info/emailblasts/2006bestbuzzawards.htm.)

“We have been tracking LEDs and LED-based projection technology for awhile and we were clearly impressed with the efficiency and light output of the PhlatLight devices,” said Insight Media President, Chris Chinnock. “These developments will make many TV makers wonder when, if and how they should include an LED-based RPTV in their product lines.”

PhlatLight is an entirely new type of solid state light sourcethat uses patentedphotonic lattice lighting technologytocontrol and manipulate the behavior of light, and is the only commercially available solid state light source that can deliver enough high-quality brightness to illuminate large screen microdisplay-based RPTVs. PhlatLight technology enables a new class of displays that feature brilliant image quality and deeper colors, longer lifetime, lower power consumption, higher reliability and are more environmentally friendly compared to RPTVs that are illuminated with conventional mercury arc-lamps. As a solid state technology, PhlatLight also provides an instant on feature, eliminating the slow warm-up time for lamp-based RPTVs.

Luminus’ PhlatLight technology was recognized last month as the light source behind Samsung’s HL-S5679W 56-inch rear projection television (RPTV), which won the CNET Best of 2006 Award in the TV category at last month’s CES in Las Vegas. In addition, Insight Media awarded LED-based, microdisplay rear-projection TVs (MD-TVs) as “Best New Display Category.”

“We are honored to be chosen to receive this award from Insight Media,” said John Langevin, vice president of sales and marketing for Luminus Devices. “Our PhlatLight technology is forging new ground in microdisplay illumination and is rejuvenating the RPTV market, and it is very rewarding to be recognized for this achievement.”
