Luminus
Devices has announced that it will be adding white LEDs to its PhlatLight®
LED lineup. These white LEDs join a portfolio of new illumination products that
Luminus is unveiling at LIGHTFAIR International this week in Las Vegas.
Like other
products in the PhlatLight family, Luminus’ white LEDs feature large chip
sizes, photonic lattice technology for maximum light extraction and advanced
PhlatLight packaging to provide exceptionally good thermal performance for high
power operation. The PhlatLight CBT-90
uses a single 9 mm2 chip that can produce more than 1,600 lumens.
“All of our
PhlatLight products are intended to replace lamps and enable LED illumination
in applications that conventional LEDs have not been able to address
satisfactorily,” said Alexei Erchak,
founder and chief technology officer, Luminus Devices. “Our white LEDs are ideal for architectural,
entertainment, industrial and general lighting applications that require
particularly high brightness.”
Luminus’
white PhlatLight LED lineup will include products in cool, neutral and warm
color temperatures and various chip sizes. The PhlatLight CBM-360 provides a
total 36 square millimeter emitting area and can generate more than 4,000
lumens from a single device.
“PhlatLight
white LEDs have a very wide dynamic range and can be operated for either
maximum brightness or maximum efficacy,” added Erchak. “For maximum brightness, PhlatLight devices
can be operated at current densities that exceed 2 A/mm2. For maximum efficacy, PhlatLight white LEDs
can be operated at more moderate current densities, at up to 80 lumens per watt.”
The first
white LEDs to be launched are the PhlatLight CBT-90 and the CBM-360 with cool
white color (6000oK), which will begin sampling in Q3 2008. Additional products with different chip
sizes, package configurations and color temperatures will follow shortly
thereafter.
Luminus is
demonstrating these white PhlatLight LEDs during LIGHTFAIR International in Las Vegas from May 28-May 30 in the Red Rock Ballroom at
the Marriott Suites Hotel in Las Vegas.
